This project was done for a Zhejiang Province poster competition themed "Promoting Chinese Culture and Language to Foreigners."
The two posters aim to show the upsurge in learning Chinese and understanding Chinese culture through the use of Chinese elements such as Tian An Men Square and the Great Wall, and Chinese dragons. They also use the four dynamics of the image of Sheng, Dan, Jing, and Chou in Chinese Peking Opera to represent the four tones of Chinese, "Ping Tone, Shang Tone, Qu Tone, and Ru Tone". Finally, I use the popular Chinese folk tale "Legend of the White Snake" to illustrate the love story between Xu Xian and Bai Su Zhen. Bai drinks wine and transforms back into a snake, resulting in her spouse's death. She tries to revive him by breaking the law of heaven and is imprisoned inside the Lei Feng Pagoda.
The three pools mirroring the moon illustrated in the second poster are created by candlelight shining through the holes and reflecting on the water's surface.
The main body of "writing Chinese characters" is the Chinese Confucian temple, auspicious clouds, and scrolls. The Magic Circle symbolizes the principles of benevolence, righteousness, propriety, wisdom, and trustworthiness.
